red bull — São Paulo pay phones hacked to provide travel information
The expectation that consumers should be able to know everything about your brand is totally established. So the ultimate frontier when it comes to transparency? Serve the accelerating, Google-fueled expectation that the entire world be transparent and instantly knowable.
In October 2016 pay phones near bus stops in São Paulo were hacked to provide real time digital information about bus times and locations. Geo-data was used to identify the location of bus stops; combining the information with the city’s transport system, the estimated arrival time of the next bus could be calculated and was then converted into speech. The project was part of Red Bull Basement: a festival designed to inspire change through the use of new technologies.
