Code4Nation — App empowers individuals to bring transparency to local elections
We’ve talked about how the other four truths all fuel the overarching truth that is empowerment of the individual. So how about empowering citizens via new forms of transparency?
Kawal Pilkada – a mobile app developed by Code4Nation – aims to bring crowdsourced transparency to Jakarta’s local elections, which took place in February 2017. On voting day, people could use the free app to locate their closest polling station, and were encouraged to upload photos of the final count, with results displayed within the app in real time. All collected data was processed and verified by a team of volunteers, allowing citizens to compare reported results with actual votes.
