Gorillas — Germany's swiftly expanding speedy delivery app — recently launched its own record label, Pedal Records. When they're not cycling around cities with packs full of groceries, riders can submit their music for review. If the label's A&R team likes what they hear, a rider can sign a contract within weeks. Once tracks are released and streamed or sold, the artist receives a 30% cut of net profits, paid out twice a year.
To tap into an existing network, Gorillas partnered with Berlin-based indie label MNF. Pedal Records has signed a handful of artists so far, including a Ghanaian rap artist, a Chilean electronic music producer and Polish pop singer, all working for Gorillas in Germany and the Netherlands.
