HACK CARE is a 244-page catalog detailing easy hacks to IKEA products, focused on creating friendlier environments for those living with dementia. The catalog includes assembly guides for an adapted chair, shelving/care unit, fidget board and a table, all made from products and parts readily available from the Swedish giant.
Beyond supplying instructions for specific hacks, the catalog is a deep-dive into the needs of people with dementia, especially those living in a home setting. It aims to provide family and carers with the knowledge and inspiration they need to invent their own hacks. (Created in Singapore, HACK CARE is the result of combined efforts by Lien Foundation, Lekker Architects and Lanzavecchia + Wai Studio.)
Currently, around 50 million people worldwide have dementia, with that number estimated to reach 82 million in 2030 and 152 million in 2050. Which means that empowering carers to improve the lives of those with dementia can have a huge impact. This ties in with BRANDCARE, one of the trends in our (paid) 2021 Trend Report: in no small part to the pandemic, consumers increasingly expect brands to prioritize their health, and that of those they love. As HACK CARE says: 'Go ahead. Hack care.'
